The Ph.D. program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, offered through a consortium of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and the University of Central Arkansas, is a research-based program designed to prepare graduates to be faculty members and scientists at institutions of higher education. The program is rigorous in its research and scientific base, yet it allows for several different areas of specialization. Graduates will be prepared for research, grant writing, teaching, and supervision through pedagogy and mentorship.
The consortium structure provides the opportunity for interdisciplinary research in both medically-oriented sites and in conventional college campus locations. Doctoral students will have opportunities to collaborate on research with specialists working with the full range of the population and with disciplines including otolaryngology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology, and special education. Students will have access to research facilities to study fluency, swallowing, auditory perception, language development, electrophysiology, voice and other areas.
