General Information
The University of Montevallo Department of Communication Science and Disorders has programs of study accredited by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and by the Council for Education of the Deaf (CED). The department was established in the 1940s and has operated Alabama's only residential speech and hearing center for children with severe communication disorders since 1954.

The CSD Department includes programs of study in Speech-Language Pathology and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Students completing a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology are eligible for an Alabama Class A teacher's certificate following one year of successful employment in an Alabama school. Students completing a Bachelor's degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are eligible for a Class B teacher's certificate upon graduation.
